Cryopreservation

Cryopreservation is the freezing of sperm and embryos using special equipment that keeps their viability, allowing them to be thawed for future use. Sperm cryopreservation may be used for situations where, due to scheduling differences, the husband is unable to be present to provide fresh sperm for IVF when the wife ovulates. It may also be used if there is reason to believe that the sperm quantity and quality of the husband is expected to deteriorate for future IVF cycles. Embryo cryopreservation is used to preserve excess viable embryos for use in future IVF cycles.
